boiled peanuts

Fresh peanuts are one of the South’s most underappreciated seasonal treats, and now is the perfect time to enjoy them while they’re still green. Unlike dried peanuts, these are freshly harvested and still soft and tender, making them ideal for boiling. This simple recipe transforms a humble ingredient into a warm, salty, and deeply satisfying snack that’s perfect for long porch sits or road trip munching.

Boiled peanuts are a cultural staple across the Southeast, and with good reason. When slow-simmered in salted water, green peanuts take on a buttery, almost bean-like texture. The salt soaks deep into the shells, creating a snack that’s briny on the outside and creamy on the inside. You can keep it classic with just salt or spice things up with garlic, chili flakes, or Cajun seasoning. Either way, they’re addictive in the best way.

Not only are boiled peanuts delicious, but they also pack a nutritional punch. Peanuts are high in plant-based protein, healthy fats, and antioxidants, including resveratrol. Enjoy them warm, room temperature, or even chilled. However you snack, this is a true taste of Southern harvest season that’s hard to beat.
